Chores are a great opportunity for children to learn lessons about life, gain self-respect and take pride in a job well done.
Here are some tips on ways to make chores educational and enriching:
· Show a positive attitude about your own chores. What you say and do sends a strong message.
· Do some chores with your children. This communicates that they are a part of everyone's life. Shared chores also foster teamwork.
· Help kids integrate chores into their other responsibilities such as homework and sports.
· Share your expectations. Let your kids know that you expect them to pick up after themselves. If they complain that their friends don't have to do this, you can say, "That's the way we do things at our house."
Remember as part of any good behavior plan, it is important that children have regular chores to do. So, hang up that white board on your kitchen wall and divide the house chores equally among your family members. With continued cooperation, housework will become easy to handle and at the same time, work values and an awareness of responsibility will be reinstated in your family values.
